Meet wee Piper.
When my husband knelt down to meet the three little boys, Piper was the one who bounded to his hand with eager excitement and playful puppy kisses.
So it was decided. Piper chose us to be his family.
We bundled him up in a blanket and brought him home with us.
It's been awhile since we had a "baby" in the house and it has certainly been an adjustment.
Piper's only been on the job a week and already he's in charge of trouble!
What do the other two older dogs think of the young upstart?
Buddy, who is an elderly sixteen, has no tolerance for a puppy's antics. When he's patience is at an end, Buddy curls his lip and barks a warning to Piper that he needs to respect his elders.
This lesson has been learned, but it hasn't stopped Piper from talking back to Buddy from the safety of my lap.
Scrap is more accepting, although he isn't quite sure how to handle a puppy one-quarter his size.
One day I hope they will all be the best of friends.
Oh my goodness! He's adorable!! How much fun is this!
ReplyDeletePrecious! A little bundle of love : )
ReplyDeleteLove love love all Pipers pictures!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jennifer what a wonderful replacement for the dog that you lost - he is such a cutie, I bet he is a bundle of mischief and quite a handful - but I am sure he will bring you lots of joy.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a cutie! And he looks like he is a bundle full of energy :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! He is adorable. I have had two Shelties in the past, they were both wonderful...His ears a perfect and that can be a problem with the breed. What a georgous little fellow.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Puppy life - best!
ReplyDeleteI seldom comment, but I just HAVE to say how adorable Piper is!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweetie! They'll be the best of friends soon enough... he won't stay 1/4 the size of the others forever (though they may wish he would!).
ReplyDeleteJennifer, my heart is absolutely melting!
ReplyDeleteThat face!!!!
Congratulations on this beautiful little addition.
Please do post photos as he grows.
Oooooh!! Puppy days are so wonderful and terrible all at once. Milk teeth might mean some destroyed chair legs, but it's worth it, it has to be. We have a Sheltie too.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer. I have been quietly enjoying your blog for several years. I garden and have 2 Shelties...so much in common. I love your gardening style and your sense of humor, but on this snowy landscaped morning, sitting with my coffee, I opened your email with that adorable Piper staring back...wow! I so wanted to snuggle with him. We have never had a pup. Our Shelties have all been rescues 7-9 months. We may have to try a puppy for our next addition! Thank you for sharing💕💕
ReplyDeleteTaking in a rescue puppies is a wonderful thing to do Carolyn! I'll never forget how dirty poor Rusty was when we got him. How could no one want him? He was such a sweet dog and I still miss him dearly.
DeleteSuper cute! I wish I still had an older dog to snap my puppy into place... What a job!!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a face!!! Puppy fun! But a lot of work! Our Jesse is now 2 1/2 and finally settling down (or at least as much settling as a part JRT can do). I'm sure Piper will fit right in!!
ReplyDeletePiper is SO cute..I remember Puppy days..lots of work..but enjoyment also..
ReplyDeleteOh my GOODNESS. So, so sweet. After recently navigating puppydom, though, I do not envy the amount of work you have in front of you. But look at that face. Almost makes it worth it. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous face he has. He's going to keep you busy!
ReplyDeleteHe is one gorgeous boy! Very cute ! But now he is in charge of 'Trouble', he will have to work hard to learn all aspects of the job ! I look forward to hearing about Piper as he grows .
ReplyDeleteSuch a funny little Piper! I really loved the photos and scrolled several times up and down. I'm sure he will give you lots of joy and love and.......lots of work, but I love their tricks and mischieves too, it belongs to growing up.
ReplyDeleteCute!
ReplyDeleteAw he is absolutely adorable!
ReplyDeleteA bundle of cuteness! And he looks like he has a lot of spunk and personality!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to meet Piper. May he bring you many, many years of joy and companionship at the hearth and in your gardens.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little face. I look forward to hearing about Pipers escapades.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
He is so cute!! I wanna snuggle him! I'm so glad you did this! :o)
ReplyDeleteI love your photos and the story with it...you should be writing children's books..
ReplyDeleteHe is darling, I want to hug and kiss him. Enjoy your new baby.

Thanks everyone for your comments! A moment of peace in my morning as the "baby" is asleep on his bed- well most of him is asleep on his bed... his head is hanging over the edge and is resting on the floor. All three dogs been out to play, come in for their breakfast, gone out to play, come in to check their bowls for any crumbs that were missed, gone out to play and finally come in for a nap after such an exhausting start to their morning! And to think it isn't yet 9 am!
ReplyDeleteMy heart is melting! Adorable, just adorable.
ReplyDeleteSo you have three dogs in your garden again. Your new puppy is amazing, Jennifer. His ears are so pretty and I love his perfect white markings. P. x
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me so much of my Emma as a puppy! She was a four month old rescue and all we know is she is a shelter/shephard/retriever mix. Her siblings looked more retriever than she did. Now 7, I can't imagine life without her-minus the dog hair part of it... Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh my how could you not love that face....and yes I would take him home too!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new bundle of joy!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I also have a collie & how I love her! I'm so happy to see you have a new baby. Your sweet pictures have filled me with joy. Bille
