We were away on the weekend and although we had a nice time, I am glad to be home.
I have missed Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, but even though a day late, I want to share with you all that has been blooming in the garden.
August has been kind to the garden and had brought with it lots of rain and cooler days. I find that with the change in temperature, I am more willing to venture out in the garden to catch up on weeding and deadheading.
The garden hasn't changed terrifically in the last few weeks. Many flowers have soldiered on through the last hot, humid weeks of July and continue to bloom nicely in mid-August. There are a few new stars in the garden as well.
I have been collecting different varieties of phlox for years. They take awhile to mature, particularly in the more shaded areas of the garden. Finally, this year they have started to come into their own.
Phlox paniculata 'Eva Cullum'
Some of the Echinacea is now starting to look a bit scruffy. The butterflies don't seem to mind though.
Disappointingly, there are only a few daylilies still in flower. Next year I would like to
add a few more late blooming varieties.
A mix of Brown-eyed Susan, Phlox paniculata 'Eva Cullum' and Phlox paniculata 'Laura Bright Eyes'
This is my favourite Helenium.
The Tiger Lilies have been beautiful, but have now have reached the final, top tier of flower buds.
These 'False Mallow' flowers have also reached the final, top tier of buds. Now they will set seed.
Looking into the distance, you can see my 'Pee Gee' hydrangea by the front door that has
come into full flower. The Phlox seen here is Phlox paniculata 'Laura Bright Eyes'.
The way the light catches on the small white flowers never fails to fascinate me. They can look completely different at various times of day.
As you can see, the garden is not all a crazy mix of bright colors. The shaded back garden has a more subtle palette of muted tones.'Oakleaf' hygrangea
And look what we have here, a few ripe cherry tomatoes!
The bunnies have gotten just about everything else in the vegetable garden. The other day, I turned around and there was a little bunny munching on zucchini leaves while watching me weed. The cute little devil wasn't afraid at all.
Do you think he is even grateful that I have been keeping him so well fed?
Phlox paniculata 'Laura'
I look forward to seeing what has been blooming in your garden.
I don't think I ever get tired of seeing your garden! I have definitely tried to channel just a bit of your design brilliance into my plans for my Big Fall Redo. :o)
ReplyDeleteHow I would love to have a garden such as yours! It really is quite splendid! And how you manage to have so many flowers in such abundance with your three Shelties amazes me no end! The variety and colour of your phlox collection is gorgeous. Love your hydrangeas, host as...oh, just make that everything!
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of colours in your garden. Phlox is quite new to me - but a delightful new friendship! It´s so beautiful with the bright colours when autumn is coming slowly...

Your garden looks fantastic, I especially like the pale cream lily. I am just like you when it comes to photographing hydrangea, it's hard to stop!
ReplyDeleteThe front garden looks great.I like it very much.
ReplyDeleteYour garden pictures are breathtakingly beautiful.
ReplyDeletePhlox, Helenium, purple coneflowers and lilies. . . they have all given me fits in my garden even though they are staples of the border. Yours look so much better than I ever had! I love seeing them here.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is breathtaking! The helenium filled me with happiness and sadness, it's my favourite too but our freakish wet year meant I couldn't walk on the clay soil to get off the unreasonable amount of slugs thriving in the rain, so it was completely munched up. We keep gazing at the empty spot where it should be flowering. So nice to be reminded of it's loveliness here, and in the company of so many other beautiful photo's.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks gorgeous! A phlox collection sounds wonderful, I wish I could have one too. There is so much beauty in your garden, I enjoyed these pictures very much.
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice mix with both full sun and partly shaded locations. I love your "crazy mix of bright colors" in your front yard. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection of garden images. Your flowers are stunning.
ReplyDeleteJennifer The garden is so full of colour.. even the shade has lots of interest. Love the photos with the butterflies on the flowers...Cooler here too tho could use more rain happy too can get outside.
ReplyDeleteGlad you shared Jennifer. The photos are luscious! Your garden is a delight to see every month, everything is beautiful. It is good the bunnies left you plants to show. The one visiting my yard had been pretty gracious too. It is he family members that have me worried.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful gardens! No wonder why that bunny (and butterflies!) like to hop around there. I have one phlox and have vowed to add more ... especially now that I have been treated to yours!
ReplyDeleteI think I may now be able to follow your blog (I've had some strange issues w/my computer) and I hope this works, because you have such a beautiful garden. Your photography is superb!
ReplyDeleteThe wildlife around here is becoming very bold, too. Last night there were six deer standing in my hosta bed. The good thing is they seemed to be only passing through. I wish they liked to deadhead hostas, they could have all they like!
Phlox are great, aren't they? I've been adding more and more of them. Your garden is looking beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI find it so inspiring to look at your blog - not only at your beautiful flowers (and arrangement of them in your garden), but also your photography is so perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love the first bokeh, blurry backgrounds you do so well!
Everything looks gorgeous, my friend!
Diane
Oh my gosh, what a wonderful garden you have. My dream.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is gorgeous, makes me jealous. :0)
ReplyDeleteWe have a large yard surrounded by woodland with lots of deer that eat pretty much anything we plant. It's looking a little sad right now with not too many plants going on.
Beautiful beautiful Jennifer! You have a great eye for the photographs and a wonderful garden! I would love that garden in front of the picket fence ....wow!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the hydrangeas...wonderful at all times of the day.
absolutely wonderful!!! I agree with Janet!
ReplyDeletewouldn't it be wonderful if we all could tour each friday's flaunting gardens together and in person? I would love it!
I wish I had more time to visit all of my favorites everytime you post!
Thank you so much for linking in and sharing your post with my party today! Have a wonderful weekend!

So bright and cheerful your garden. I really like your tiger lillies! Hmm...maybe I should drop by to our local nursery and see whether it is on sale.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful garden, so lush and pretty even in hot August! Your pics are just gorgeous. I enjoyed the peek.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the phlox/rudbeckia combination. I used that combo often in my garden, but this year both have suffered greatly with the heat and drought, so I will just have to appreciate them vicariously through your pictures. Gorgeous flowers!!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you do not get tired of photographing, especially when we see the results. Love all your plants, especially the Tiger Lilies
ReplyDeleteYes, I would definately say that August has been kind to your garden.
ReplyDeleteColors are spectacular! Is that your garden light? Or a great camera that enriches and saturates the colors? Wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments everyone. Jayne, I would love to say that the claim that the light is my great camera skills, but in reality it is early morning sunshine.
