I especially like the hollyhocks growing against the picket fence, my vision of the quintessential cottage garden. debsgardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15656883577922890561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-12655670539283586432016-07-22T06:28:10.092-07:002016-07-22T06:28:10.092-07:00I love hollyhocks! I used to have quite a few here, some that I transplanted from my parents and some that my husband's grandfather planted here. But it recent years their numbers have really dwindled, and they have been plagued with rust. I wish I knew the solution to getting rid of that rust! But I keep trying and scatter a few more seeds each year. Usually my biggest and prettiest hollyhock grows out of my compost pile:)Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384059342847120951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-42446700354111128572016-07-21T04:35:48.952-07:002016-07-21T04:35:48.952-07:00Oooh, that’s a nice fence – with very nice hollyho...Oooh, that’s a nice fence – with very nice hollyhocks! I haven’t tried growing them yet and feel I am kind of missing out – I really should be giving them a try here in my new garden, although my clay soil is probably not ideal. Some plum, pink and white coloured ones will look lovely. Thanks for a great post with stunning photos as always :-)HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-75488376777871814612016-07-20T18:06:57.606-07:002016-07-20T18:06:57.606-07:00Gorgeous photos! They are absolutely beautiful, though. Good luck with your next attempt! I have however had really good luck with lupines. The plants grew to be huge this year, and what a beautiful display of flowers. Just today, I began collecting the seeds for next year. :-)

Have a wonderful evening, and as always, thank you for all of the wonderful information here.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02574946867709812195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-5418934673177820912016-07-20T07:42:17.482-07:002016-07-20T07:42:17.482-07:00I have been collecting seeds all summer and I have...I have been collecting seeds all summer and I have been lucky enough to have extra seeds for friends. I have sown biennials many times. Foxgloves are selfseeding, I have them all over the garden, Sweet Williams are also still there, I love their old fashioned appearance, Canterbury bells are still in pots. With Hollyhocks I have like you changing success. This year it's a disaster, rabbits have eaten all their leaves.
At last we have warm sunny summerdays, I hope your summer is good too!
Regards, Janneke
Janneke https://www.blogger.com/profile/11056916431881916066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-69892315469855648762016-07-19T17:12:34.761-07:002016-07-19T17:12:34.761-07:00Thanks for advice, I love Foxgloves and Hollyhocks...Thanks for advice, I love Foxgloves and Hollyhocks, but, here in Australia, we have to be careful with water so I have resisted them in recent years. However, we've had good rain this winter, so I'm inspired to grow them again.Gerrie Mackeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14842933917017795753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7116278351699614429.post-32118421505277108552016-07-19T12:14:58.166-07:002016-07-19T12:14:58.166-07:00Great post--lots of good advice.
