  2. This post screams fun! It looks like your dogs enjoy frolicking in the leaves as much as mine. How nice that you have an empty lot behind you that you can use for playing. I LOVE the hydrangea photo. It is glowing! Have you had an unseasonably warm fall like we have?

    1. Yes, we are having a wonderful fall. The empty lot is a wonderful place for the boys to run around (although a busy road runs by making me cautious. I am always careful to through the ball away from traffic). We are also lucky enough to be five minutes away by car from a leash-free park. That is there favourite place to go!

    1. We have had a really nice fall. I love the mild weather! I just wish the summers weren't so hot. Warm falls are a bonus, but global warming definitely has its drawbacks.

    1. Buddy looks amazingly young despite his age. There is just a smallest bit of grey on his muzzle. The telltale sign of his age are the greyish cast to eyes. He's mostly blind. Most days Buddy sleeps and sleeps. He still rallies to play ball however, so as long as there is not an overwhelming number of negatives in his day, all is good.

  7. I love the pictures of your dogs, I had a collie as a child!

I was wondering if you Joe Pye is the cultivar 'Ivory Towers'? I have some seed and I like the way yours looks.

    1. That particular Joe Pye Weed is my absolute favourite. It blooms really late in the season and looks like a fluffy cloud. I have it tucked in behind an Agastache and next to a Miscanthus. It rests on both and might flop is it was not able to lean on the other two plants. Sad to say, I have no idea what the cultivar is. Sorry about that.
I do have another one with similar white flowers. It has interesting variegation on the foliage. It's Eupatorium altissimum 'Prairie Jewel'. It's not a big a clump though and the effect isn't quite as nice as the other. Perhaps that is because it is in a drier spot. These plants do like conditions to be on the moist side.
This year I added Eupatorium rugosum 'chocolate'. It is still really young, but I think I am going to come to like it too.
I have an abundance of potential seed. If you want to send me your address, I will send you some seed of the mystery Joe you admired. My email is jenc_art@hotmail.com.

    1. Perhaps it is my soil, the sharply cold evenings we have had or maybe even the amount of sun that accounts for the color. The sun was shining on the dwarf Goat's Beard when I took the picture which adds to the glow, but the fine ferny foliage was, and still is, quite pretty. I love its golden color with splashes of yellow and pink. The large Goat's Beard is also quite wonderful right now. Again the leaves have touches of pink mixed with yellow and green.

  12. Jennifer, what a wonderful post! I loved seeing the dogs romping in the yard; how I miss my own two. Buddy is looking so good for a dog of advanced years; you've taken very good care of him. The color contrast of the blue watering can and the foliage is striking, every photo is a gem.
