Vintage Bottles

On our limited budget, collectables and antiques have to be purchased for a song. Old bottles, which can be had for as little as a quarter meet that criteria.  In little groupings, old bottles make pretty vases for spring flowers.

For these photographs, I started with Kim Klassen's Warm Sun texture. I color-adjusted  Warm Sun into both a blue and grey version of the original. I layered them on the image (soft light) and removed the texture from some of the areas of the picture.

  7. I do the same thing! All summer long, I deliver cut flowers to friends and no one ever returns the vases. :( So, I'm always on the prowl for cool bottles and mason jars I can pick up for a song. This texture treatment of the flowers is just amazing. I'd love to learn how to do that.

  8. Jennifer, the photos and the bottles are beautiful. You are inspiring me to start fooling around with all of the effects I have on Photoshop that I don't use.

  11. They are just so beautiful sometimes it is hard to find nice small vases that do not cost a lot so this is a great tip and I will keep it in mind.

  13. Hi Everyone,
    Thanks for all your comments.
Cat, what a sweet thing to say! it is interesting that your blog has a dark background, mine is white, your images are richly dark and mine are light and brightly colored, yet we share a love of light and texture. I hope we are already friends.
Eileen, Kate and One, if you click the link to Kim Klassen's blog, I believe there are how-to tutorials there.

  17. I love old glass bottles!! I have a small, fat square one that says Paris on it that I'm quite possessive of. They are so much more interesting than all the plastic junk out there. Gorgeous compositions, as usual!! Your posts are always a visual treat!!

  20. My life is no longer my own. The puppies are growing by the day and are both teething and wanting to chew everything within reach. What I thought was a full time job before, has made me realise I had it all wrong. Now it's a full time job!

Your photography, as always, is incredibly inspired! As one of your commenters has already remarked, these look like paintings! Incredibly beautiful colours and textures. You not only possess the eyes of an artist. Your whole soul shines forth creatively in everything you touch :)
