It is going to be a White Christmas

Santa came early and he brought me some paperwhites!

I usually treat myself to a pot of the narcissus on my birthday (first of December), but this year I have had no luck finding them in the stores. Then Friday evening, my dear husband arrived home with paperwhites in his arms. The tiny white buds are slowly opening and already the house smells so wonderfully sweet and spicy!

The white amaryllis, that I showed you last week, have now opened fully.

It is definitely looking like it is going to be a white Christmas here!

  2. Merry Christmas, Jennifer!
What gorgeous blooms. I love Paper Whites, they're so dainty and fragrant. I grew those for most of my master gardening friends as holiday gifts and when they began flowering I selfishly wanted to keep some just for me. I didn't. But, I wanted to! That Amaryllis is quite stunning, too. Have a wonderful holiday week!

  3. Happy Birthday and a merry Christmas! Another beautiful set of colour photos you've captured for us. I must confess, although I find the paperwhites quite pretty the smell is enough to knock me off my feet. I have to be careful what I bring in the house as often the fragrance in an enclosed space is too much for me.

  4. Paperwhites in December are a treat. I noticed however, I have all manner of bulbs peeking up out of the ground already! I just planted my Spring bulbs in November, deeply, so I think something is amiss! Paperwhites in December are great, but tulips in January??? I don't think that is such a good idea!

  11. How beautiful! I can almost smell them from here. ;) I simply love paperwhites and amaryllis this time of year - watching them grow taller and taller and then the bud swelling and finally bursting to a bloom. Magical! Have a wonderful Christmas!

  12. You are definitely going to have a white Christmas! Your blooms are gorgeous. I'm glad your hubby found you some paperwhites. You've photographed them wonderfully well. I cut one of my Amaryllis for a vase after seeing your white ones last week. I am loving the effect so thank you for that inspiration.
Btw, you are so lucky to have found "The Forgotten Garden" for so cheap! I sent my Mom my copy so she can read it too ~ maybe you'll get a chance to start yours over the holidays?
    Merry Christmas!
